First off - how to send messages to the list

HOW TO SEND A MESSAGE TO THE LIST

The Heyer List Address to which posts are sent is HEYER@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM

Note - that the address on this email is HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM - site hosts the Heyer list, so we are Heyer at home.ease.lsoft.com You can send an email right from your email programme. You can also send a message to the list simply by clicking the reply on any message from the Heyer list - the options are set to automatically send it back to the Heyer list. REMEMBER - make sure your subject line is correct using the rules.

There is a third way to send a message to the list and that is through the Heyer List Serve Page.

If you wish to Email your commands without using a web page

ALTERING YOUR EMAIL OPTIONS - SENDING COMMANDS .....................................................................................................
(a)The Command Address
The Command Address to which commands are sent is LISTSERV@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM
ie - you are sending your messages to listserv, which is the automatic processor of commands at the host address home.ease.lsoft.com. (Do NOT send them to the Heyer at home.ease.lsoft.com. LISTSERV is the automated response address. It is an automated processor that 'serves these lists' - easier to remember that way right?)

(b)How to send commands All commands must go in the body of the email. NOT the subject line.
(c)Digest or individual emails By default all new list subscriptions are in DIGEST format which means that you will receive 1-2 large email notes a day that contain all the posts.

If you prefer to receive individual email posts then send the command SET HEYER NODIGEST

If you want to set it back to digest then send the command SET HEYER DIGEST

d) If you want a copy of your postings send SET HEYER REPRO NOACK

If you want to go back to just the acknowledgement: SET HEYER NOREP ACK

e) If you are going away a while and want to turn off mail SET HEYER NOMAIL

(this will stop all mail regardless of digest or other format)

When you come back send SET HEYER MAIL

f) To unsubscribe from this list send the command SIGNOFF HEYER

HOW TO SET UP A PASSWORD AND FINDING THE WEB ARCHIVES

Note: you do not require a List password. It is nice to have if you use the web access method to read the archives and/or send posts. Access the archives. The web site will walk you through setting up a password to access them. But note, you will need to confirm your password by email as described below.

Or

If you want to set up a password by email send in the command

PW ADD XXXXXXXX

where XXXXXXXX is a selected password.

Send this to the command address at LISTSERV @HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM

You MUST send this from your subscribed email address. The WELCOME note which was sent to you will have that listed in the TO field.

After you send in that command LISTSERV will send back a confirmation request. Unlike the other confirmation this one just required you to REPLY to it with

OK

and nothing else in the body of the REPLY. The SUBJECT line will contain a special code so please do not change the SUBJECT line at all. (The RE: text is allowed.)

You will then receive a message that all was successful.

Then you can go backto The archives and use your subscribed email address and new password to view the archives and change your list options.

RENEWING YOUR SUBSCRIPTION

Every two months, if you do not regularly post to the list, you will receive an automated renewal request. If you no longer wish to be on the list, you can just DO NOTHING and your subscription will expire in 2 weeks.

Or to remove yourself more quickly send the command:

SIGNOFF HEYER to LISTSERV@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM

If you want to stay on the list then you must follow the directions in the Renewal notice which instructs you to send the command in the body of an email:

CONFIRM HEYER to LISTSERV@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM DO NOT SEND THIS COMMAND UNTIL AFTER YOU RECEIVE THE RENEWAL NOTICE! If you send it too soon your subscription is likely to expire - this is an automated process remember.

If you post on a regular basis you won't receive this renewal notice as it is expected that you do want to stay.

If you prefer to read and lurk, that's fine, but don't forget to renew your subscription when at it comes. Remeber: YOU MUST SEND THE CONFIRM COMMAND FROM THE EMAIL ADDRESS YOU ARE SUBSCRIBED WITH!

For example if you are subscribed to the list as "avon@email.isp.com," make sure your identity in your email program has that EXACT address in it. If your identiy has "avon@isp.com" in it - the command may not work!!!!!! And then your subscription will expire!

Your subscribed address is in the "To:" field in the header of this WELCOME note.

After sending the CONFIRM you will receive a confirmation that your subscription was renewed within a day. If you so not receive a successful confirmation then email Lisa May, the Patroness for Membership Services (maylisa66@earthlink.net) Please give it a day and make sure you followed directions correctly before a patroness.
